Urgent Need

I have been talking with Edwin a lot this morning, below are some urgent needs we need to address.

We have the real and a huge need Brother Mike here at the Borongan Church of Christ, we needed land where we can possibly move to, because the chapel now in Borongan will be demolished because the real owner is the PHILIPPINE NATIONAL POLICE, they’re claiming now the land for it is owned by the Government. So we are now worried where can we moved.

We need to find property to buy and build new a church building. Edwin also wants this location to be their center for the Disaster Assistance CoC there in the Philippines. Disaster Assistance CoC funded the rebuild of the current church building after a Super Typhoon a few years ago.

Second need—The San Julian Church of Christ is quickly growing and is in the process of adding onto the building. They need help with funds for the concrete flooring, additional chairs and some other materials.

2021 Recap

-Disaster Assistance Mission/2021 Update-Only a few days left to donate and get your tax credit this year. Below is a small update of what we have been doing this year. The big milestone reached is we went over 1 MILLION MEALS served since we started in 2008.

1/28/21 – Tornado Fultondale Alabama-We sent volunteers into the area and helped with the purchasing, prep and handing out of 2,914 meals. Volunteers from Decatur Highway, Prattville, Hampton Cove & Columbiana Churches of Christ, local and many out of town volunteers also helped.

2/23/21 – Texas Freeze-Two of our volunteers from Kilgore TX took their RV over to the Houston area and helped prepare & handout meals and also helped deliver supplies. All total we purchased supplies to help with 6341 meals.

3/4/21 – Kentucky Flooding-On 3/4 I met with Clay City Church of Christ and with local City Officials. We setup up at Clay City CoC on Friday 3/5. A drive-thru distribution was setup where we handed out meals. Church, local and out of town volunteers handed out donated supplies. We handed out meals there thru Sunday. On Monday I took meals to the City distribution center for them to hand out and Jim & Gloria took meals to Jackson KY and also met with Jackson CoC. Tuesday we setup at Irvine CoC where they also had the same kind of drive-thru distribution where we handed out meals. We did the same thing at Beattyville CoC on Wed and on Thursday we setup at Salyersville CoC and did it again. All total we handed out 3102 meals.

3/28/21 – Newnan GA Tornado-We arrived in Newnan on 3/28 & had meeting with Newnan CoC leaders. We decided on our plans to help and over the next 2 weeks we handed out 4440 meals. While there we also worked with Peachtree City and Cear Grove Churches of Christ.

6/28/21 – Philippines COVID-19 Assistance-Edwin contacted me about needing food supplies because of a city lock down(COVID-19). Over the next 10 days we purchased food supplies for 150 families which equaled 3000 meals.

8/19/21 – Hurricane Fred North Carolina-We met with Central Haywood CoC and started handing out meals to Lineman and home owners. Were there for 7 days and handed out out 4550 meals.

8/23/21 – Tennessee Flooding-We sent 2 of our coordinators to Waverly Church of Christ where they helped with meals, supplies and sign up of families that needed help. When I left NC we went to McEwen CoC just east of Waverly and handed out meals. As of 9/9/21 between both locations we handed out 15,495 meals. Coordinators are still helping at Waverly CoC.

9/3/21 – Hurricane Ida/Louisiana-We started providing meals on 9/3/21. We were setup at Chalmette CoC & Hollywood Road CoC Houma and in 4 other locations around the damaged areas. We handed out 56,145 meals and lots of other donated supplies. Also we had a Coats for Kids effort in which we purchased and handed out over 1000 coats.

12/12/21 – Bowling Green KY Tornado-We setup at Lehman Ave Church of Christ and started serving meals on 12/13. At the end of our second week we had handed out 16,307 meals and helped hand out many loads of donated supplies. As of 12/27 we are still here helping.

12/2021 – Typhoon Ria in the Philippines-We have committed to providing over 27,000 meals, working with Edwin & Blenda Inso in one area and Michael & Deborah Stock in another area. Information and photos will be on our FaceBook page.

TN Flooding/Hurricane Ida

We are still helping with meals in Waverly TN and have a Kids Christmas Coat program going on right now in Louisiana and here at our home base in Southern Kentucky.

Our goal is very aggressive 2200 coats for kids in need.

Hurricane Ida

-Disaster Assistance Mission/Hurricane Ida-We have made a quick change to our original plan. We cannot get into the LaPlace area fast enough to get started cooking when we wanted so we have made arrangements to setup at the Chalmette Church of Christ in Chalmette LA.

We will have the cooking team setup by Thursday afternoon and start serving meals for lunch on Friday. Will post the menu later.

Volunteers will be needed to help box and deliver the meals to different locations. Please let everyone know that this will be our need starting Friday 8/3. If you are going to help or telling someone else about this they need to be at Chalmette CoC, 200 De La Ronde Dr by 9AM. We hope to serve 800-1000 meals per day.

Texas Freeze

We will be coordinating our efforts with #TexasReliefWarriors(Revonda Kirby, Zachary Church of Christ) connected us together . I will do the ordering of supplies for meals from our home base and Chris & Donna Vidacovich(Chandler St. Church of Christ, Kilgore Tx) will be taking their RV to the Houston area tomorrow to coordinate our efforts and help with other needs there on location. Our first shipment of cooking supplies hopefully will arrive from SYSCO on Wednesday.

Fultondale Alabama Tornado

-Disaster Assistance Mission/Fultondale Alabama Tornado-4 day recap.

Thursday and Friday 100 sack lunches were delivered each day.

Saturday 1308 Jambalaya meals were handed out & delivered for lunch and dinner.

Today 496 breakfast burritos and 810 BBQ, hamburger & jambalaya meals were handed out or delivered.

Total for the 4 days was 2814 meals.

Tomorrow Jim & Gloria will be handing out 100 sack lunches and visiting the hotels that have evacuees staying to see if they are interested in our hotel program.

2020 Update

2020 has been a crazy year. Thankfully we were able to keep helping. This year we provided 153,188 meals and handed out many truck loads of donated supplies to those effected by natural disasters and the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Many thanks to everyone who donated funds and volunteers, without you this work could not continue.

Most likely sometime during the coming year Disaster Assistance CoC will provide it’s 1 millionth meal since its startup in 2008. When I first had the idea to start this mission I had no idea we would ever accomplish anything like this. But as I said above it could not have been done without your donations and volunteering.
