Kauai Flooding/Mudslide

-Disaster Assistance Mission/Kauai-Good morning everyone. This may be a longer than normal post because I have a lot you need to know. I have spent the past 3 days researching our options for helping those in need after the 30″ of rain fell in just 24 hours in Kauai, causing massive flooding and mudslides. Because of the high cost of traveling to and housing cost in Kauai we have decided we can save funds and still provide the same great services by having local individuals and groups team with us to get the job done. I can coordinate from here. This is not new to us, we did it a few years ago in the Philippines, we did it a few months ago in California for the fires and I am doing it right now for Texas.

As of last night Malama Kaua’i, Karolyn Fieuler(one of the owners of Kapaa Kauai Pasta and Crossroads Christian Fellowship are teaming up with us and when Mike Kano(minister at Kauai Church of Christ) returns form Japan next week, I am sure will be part of our group because the Kauai Church of Christ has in the past sent us funds to help with disasters here.
Yesterday I did a test shipment of 50 pairs of rubber boots to Kauai, shipping cost is not free but very expensive and we have no idea how long it will take to get there. So most likely any materials we will try and purchase there.
Karolyn and Crossroads have been preparing meals this week. As of last night when I went to bed we had 200 ordered for today. If we were doing that here that would be a small day but the COST OF FOOD in Kauai is CRAZY. It will cost 2 or 3 times more per meal than it does here on Mainland USA.
Let me say that again our cost per meal will be 2 to 3 times more than normal.

I am sharing all of this with you because as the number of meals go up the cost will be great. If we do 500 meals daily which I think might be a low number would be cost comparable to doing 1000 – 1500 meals daily here.
I am sure you know what is coming next. WE NEED YOUR HELP. As I said above the Kauai Church of Christ in the past has sent funds to us the Disaster Assistance CoC mission to help with disasters here on the Mainland so I am asking each of you to take this information to your friends, church leaders and business partners so everyone can now help the Kauai people just as they have helped us.
As I always say let us administer your donations for you. We know where the need is, we have volunteers or contacts there to help get the work done. We post updates with photos so you or your members can say look this is what our donations are doing.

You can donate to our work 2 ways. Online at www.disasterassistancecoc.com or make check payable to and mail to:
Disaster Assistance CoC, C/O Lake Jackson Church of Christ, 402 Center Way St, Lake Jackson, TX 77566. If you want this donation to go towards our work the above two options are the only choices. Making check payable to someone else or mailing to a different address will not go towards this effort.
